Whatever you want at Trago....

Trago has always been more than just about shopping. In addition to over 100,000 bargains, our three largest stores are surrounded by areas to sit and relax, have fun with the kids and grab a bit to eat between the retail therapy! Even our smallest store, in Falmouth, has a lovely coffee bar, with the best view in town. We also run a number of events throughout the year, at all our stores, including music and entertainment.

Trago is the Original Discount Store selling 100,000 products at the best possible price. It was founded by Mike Robertson (father of our Chairman Bruce) in the 1960’s and quickly built a reputation for “piling it high and selling it cheap”! The original store was an abandoned gunpower factory called Trago Mill near Liskeard. One of the early best sellers were Russian wellies being sold for the equivalent of 12p a pair or two pairs for 22p! The farmers loved them and Trago’s fame started to spread across Cornwall and other parts of the South West.

Soon a second store was opened in Newton Abbot. We use the word “store” loosely! In those early days Trago traded from an Army tent. Back then Trago’s slogan was “diamonds to dustbins” which still describes the vast variety on sale today. Trago has always had one unchanging motto – price, price and price!

In 1976 our next store opened in Falmouth and soon established itself as a part of the local community. Although the Falmouth store is our smallest it certainly benefits from a fabulous view! And this view of Falmouth harbour can be enjoyed from our Crow’s Nest café.

Work on a huge new Trago Superstore commenced in 2016 on the site of a former brickworks in the South Wales town of Merthyr Tydfil. The store opened in April 2018 with 17 iconic Trago towers giving it a distinctive look! Also at the Merthyr store is our first children’s soft play centre called the ‘Play-Zone’, which opened in July 2018 and has been occupying and entertaining local families ever since!

The large stores have 38 departments including carpets, furniture, DIY, lighting, fitted kitchens, soft furnishings, household essentials, camping, toys, sports, fishing, garden centre… stocking over 100,000 bargains! We also run lots of events throughout the year at all our stores, including music and entertainment. We’re proud to offer fantastic family fun at the lowest prices and try to include as many free attractions as possible.
